Leonardo Pavoletti celebrated his 32nd birthday by scoring for Cagliari in a 1-1 draw with Salernitana in a match-up of the two last-placed teams in Serie A.
Pavoletti redirected a cross from Joao Pedro in the 73rd to put the home team in front.
The points appeared to be headed Cagliari’s way until Federico Bonazzoli dampened the local mood with an equaliser for Salernitana in the 90th minute with a volley.
The Brazilian-born Joao Pedro could join Italy’s team for the World Cup qualifying playoffs in March.
Both sides remained three points from safety.
Joint leaders Napoli and AC Milan, who were both involved in European action earlier in the week, play on Sunday.
Napoli host Lazio while Milan are also at home to Sassuolo.
