Real Madrid target mulling over offer from Saudi Arabia

Andriy Lunin of Real Madrid
Andriy Lunin of Real Madrid CF celebrates after his team mate Vinicius Junior scores the first goal during the LaLiga EA Sports match between Real Madrid CF and FC Barcelona at Estadio Santiago Bernabeu on April 21, 2024 in Madrid, Spain.

Real Madrid may end up parting ways with Andriy Lunin during the summer transfer window, if the Ukrainian decides that he does not want to act as Thibaut Courtois’ backup. His contract ends in 2025, which means that Los Blancos are in the uncomfortable position of having to find an acceptable sale if the Ukrainian does decide that his future is away from the Spanish capital.

If Lunin does go, the expectation is that his replacement would be Kepa Arrizabalaga, who was on loan at Real Madrid last season. The 29-year-old would accept playing second-fiddle to Courtois, and the likelihood is that another deal with Chelsea would not be too difficult.

Kepa would welcome a return to Real Madrid, although Marca have revealed that the Basque ‘keeper is mulling over an offer from Al-Ittihad. He has asked for time to come to a decision.

It’s likely that Kepa’s response to Al-Ittihad will come fairly soon. If he accepts, and Lunin also leaves, Real Madrid would be in the difficult position of scrambling to sign a new backup ‘keeper for the start of the new season.
