In a significant night for Real Madrid’s Brazilian superstar, Vinicius Jr. captained Real Madrid for the first time in their victory over Real Sociedad in the Copa del Rey semi-finals.
“It’s something very special,” Vinicius told Real Madrid TV after the match. “After so much time here and at 24 years old, playing my first game as captain is a source of pride for me and my family, after everything we’ve been through to be here, to reach the club of my dreams and to be able to fulfill my dreams… I hope I can continue doing this for a long time.
“I’m happy with the team, with being able to reach a semi-final of the Cup as captain of the biggest club in the world, it’s something inexplicable. I’m experiencing it, it’s something I’ve never dreamed of or imagined… Next game I’ll be at 300 games and I already want 400 and 500. I want to make history at this club.”
Vinicius praised both his young compatriot and goalscorer Endrick, and the team’s overall performance.
“The victory is very important, we played very well, we defended as the coach asked us to and Endrick scored a great goal. We are in our best form of the season, the good games are coming, the ones we like to play and we want to end the season with as many titles as possible.”
After the match, Vinicius took to social media to express his emotions, posting a photo of himself with the captain’s armband and writing, “Living unforgettable moments with the club of my dreams.” His post prompted a humorous reply from Toni Kroos, who joked, “Now you can talk to the referees.”
