Graham Potter shares Niclas Fullkrug injury update at West Ham

Graham Potter has revealed when Niclas Fullkrug will return to action after being sidelined due to an injury at West Ham.

The Germany international signed for the Hammers last summer from Borussia Dortmund, but his consistent fitness issues have frustrated fans.

Fullkrug returned to light training away from the London Stadium a few weeks back and could potentially be available soon.

Potter has also been without Michael Antonio and has provided an update on both of his number nines.

Potter provides Fullkrug update after injury return
Fullkrug is still not ready to start against Everton on Saturday for the East London outfit after returning from injury, Potter says.

The English manager revealed that the 32-year-old striker has been back training with the group ahead of the trip to Goodison Park on 15 March but will only be in contention to start after the international break.

Potter also expressed uncertainty over whether Antonio will return to action for the Irons before the end of the season.

Speaking in the pre-match press conference, via The Athletic journalist Roshane Thomas on X (13 March), the 49-year-old head coach said: “Fullkrug has been training with the group, but he’s still not ready to start. It’s more after the international break for him.

“Summerville is the other side of the international break. It’s too early to say if Antonio will be back before the end of the season.”

Fullkrug needed v Everton at Goodison Park

West Ham lost 1-0 to Newcastle in their previous fixture at home on Monday (10 March), leaving them level on points with Everton.

The Toffees have been flying high since David Moyes’ return and are on a seven-game unbeaten run in the English top flight.

While Potter’s prospects in the Premier League look bleak, fans will want to see the Hammers finish in the top half of the table.

The Irons are nine points behind 10th-place Fulham, and with 10 games still to go in the league, catching up to them will be a challenging task.

Jarrod Bowen and Mohammed Kudus were the East London outfit’s centre-forwards against the Tyneside outfit, but they need a natural number nine to score more goals.

Evan Ferguson was signed on loan from Brighton in the winter transfer window but hasn’t made much of an impact yet.

While Fullkrug has been a disappointment, the German striker hasn’t been able to string a run of games to showcase his true potential.

The London Stadium faithful will hope the 32-year-old will be available for the business end of the season.
