Kylian Mbappe’s legal team is making aggressive moves to resolve the dispute surrounding a claim of €55 million ($61 million) in unpaid wages from PSG.Legal expert Thomas Clay said Mbappé has been authorised to make a precautionary seizure of the money, which has been frozen from PSG’s bank accounts on Thursday.
A legal hearing is scheduled for May 26.“This story has been going on for just over a year now. One year was the deadline we set for ourselves for trying to resolve this dispute as peacefully as possible,” Mbappé’s main lawyer, Delphine Verheyden, said.
“As the months went by, Kylian Mbappé still hasn’t been paid the missing €55 million. A decision has been taken, this time to go on the attack.”Verheyden is trying to enlist powerful entities in her bid to claim the unpaid wages, including the French Sports Minister and UEFA.
Verheyden, has also hinted that if PSG are found responsible that they could lose their license to play in the Champions League, a trophy they have never won.
Most recently, the French league appeals commission upheld the decision ordering the club to pay Mbappé his unpaid wages, which his team has calculated at three months plus the last third of a loyalty bonus.
Mbappé joined Real Madrid last summer on a free transfer after plundering 256 goals for the Parisian giants over a seven-year spell in Paris.
PSG has argued that there was a verbal agreement in which Mbappé agreed to relinquish the bonus.Upon arriving in the Spanish capital, Real Madrid broke the bank with a salary (2024–2029) of €32 million per season.
This translates into a weekly wage of €600,962.As a free agent, he was entitled to a signing bonus which was negotiated to be €100 million paid upfront. His team also negotiated image rights with an unprecedented 80–20 split in Mbappé’s favor (vs. Real Madrid’s standard 50–50).
The total contract value (5 Years) is an astonishing €260 million ($280 million) gross (salary plus bonus).His legal team has also announced they will start an action against PSG for harassment over the way their client was treated during his last season in Paris.
Mbappé and his mother have also filed lawsuits for the abuse they received online after he revealed he was quitting the club during his final season in the French capital.
