Paredes suffers ‘serious muscle injury’ in Wolfsburg loss

MAINZ, GERMANY – APRIL 19: Kevin Paredes of VfL Wolfsburg receives medical treatment following an injury during the Bundesliga match between 1. FSV Mainz 05 and VfL Wolfsburg at MEWA Arena on April 19, 2025 in Mainz, Germany.

Kevin Paredes may see his season end with a total of just two appearances.

The Wolfsburg winger suffered a “serious muscle injury” on Saturday, which came in just his second game of a campaign that was mostly wiped out by a foot injury.

Paredes was forced off in the 62nd minute of Wolfsburg’s 1-0 loss to Freiburg. After the game, his manager Ralph Hasenhüttl admitted the 21-year-old’s injury did not look good.

“It’s probably a serious muscle injury, based on what he reported,” Hasenhüttl said. “It’s not surprising. The boy was injured for almost a year, had a good game against Mainz, but you can see he’s still missing a lot.”

Paredes only made his season debut last weekend following a seven-month battle with a foot injury.

The Virginia native was a regular contributor for Wolfsburg last season, scoring three goals in 29 appearances.

Paredes followed that up with a strong performance at the 2024 Olympics, where he started all four games for the U.S. while tallying two goals.

The winger has three caps for the USMNT, all of which came in 2023. His status for this summer’s Gold Cup roster now appears to be in doubt.
