European hopefuls Brentford beat already relegated Ipswich Town at Portman Road to make it four successive wins in the Premier League.
The in-form Bees’ winner came from their first attempt on goal when Kevin Schade, who scored twice in last weekend’s 4-3 win over Manchester United, sent a looping header into the far corner from Bryan Mbeumo’s corner.
Mikkel Damsgaard dragged a shot narrowly wide of the far post in first-half stoppage time, while Ipswich goalkeeper Alex Palmer denied Yoane Wissa and Schade in the second half as Brentford sought to press home their advantage.
There was no lack of effort from the home side, who claimed a morale-boosting point at Everton last weekend, but the home side’s only shot on target before second-half stoppage time came from a Liam Delap header inside the second minute.
Omari Hutchinson struck the outside of the post and Cameron Burgess was denied by Mark Flekken as Ipswich began committing more bodies forward late on, but Brentford held out.
Brentford, who last won more consecutive top-flight games in 1939, rise to eighth in the table, while 18th-placed Ipswich stay a point and a place above Leicester.
