Barcelona star withdraws from international duty

Fermin Lopez of FC Barcelona celebrates after scoring a goal during the La Liga EA Sports match between FC Barcelona and Villarreal CF at Olimpic Llus Companys in Barcelona, Spain, on May 18, 2025.

Barcelona star Fermin Lopez will play no part in the U21 European Championships this summer.

As much was confirmed on Sunday evening, with the midfield starlet set to be afforded a much-needed rest with a view to next season.

The name of youngster Fermín took its place front and centre in the media headlines in Barcelona late last month

This came after word was forthcoming that the 22-year-old had been afforded call-ups to both Spain’s senior national team for the Nations League, and the country’s U21 setup for the European Championships.

This news sparked understandable concern on the part of those behind the scenes at Barcelona, who were quick to make clear their unhappiness with the situation.

On Sunday, all associated wth the Blaugrana will therefore breathe a collective sigh of relief.

As confirmed by a host of sources across the Spanish media, Fermin will play no part in the U21 Euros, meaning the midfielder can look forward to a well-earned summer vacation.
