Everton have agreement to sign free agent right back

BRENTFORD, ENGLAND – MAY 18: Rico Henry of Brentford is challenged by Kenny Tete of Fulham during the Premier League match between Brentford FC and Fulham FC at Gtech Community Stadium on May 18, 2025 in Brentford, England.

It has been all quiet on the incoming transfers front for Everton, but on Sunday morning news broke that the Toffees were close to making their first signing of the summer.

Right back has been an area of need for the Blues for some time. As age has caught up to club captain Seamus Coleman, his succession plan has remained extremely murky for a few years now.

Academy product Jonjoe Kenny struggled in limited appearances, Scottish signing Nathan Patterson hasn’t been much better, and stopgap measure Ashley Young is even older than Coleman.

With a massive squad overhaul expected this summer as over a dozen players see their contracts or loans expire, it was unlikely Everton were going to make a splash by making a transfer for the right back position.

Enter Kenny Tete. The 29-year-old is a solid if unspectacular fullback with four years of Premier League experience, all with Fulham.

The Ajax Amsterdam youth product moved to Olympique Lyon before the switch to the Cottagers under former Everton manager Marco Silva.

The Dutchman has 4 goals and 10 assists in 121 appearances for the London side, and presents a solid dependable option for manager David Moyes.

There are some injury concerns with the player however, with Tete only crossing the 30 games mark once in his career.

His contract with Fulham expires on June 30th, when he’ll be formally able to sign a contract with the Blues.
