The board at La Liga champions Barcelona have set themselves a deadline to pay the release clause of leading transfer target Nico Williams.

That’s according to Diario Sport, who have late this week provided an update on the situation.

Wide-man Nico is of course widely expected to take his talents to Catalunya’s capital before the summer is out.

With the parties having already reached an agreement on the terms of a long-term contract, all that remains is for Barca to pay the 22-year-old’s Athletic Club release clause.

And though Athletic are doing their best to put up a wall around their attacking talisman, Deco and co. appear ready to sanction as much imminently.

As per a report from Sport, the Blaugrana have set a deadline of July 6th to deposit Nico’s release clause with La Liga.

It is added that:‘Although there is the possibility of paying it earlier, the club prioritises accounting management: they want the operation to be included in the budget for the 2025-26 season, which is key to meeting LaLiga’s financial fair play criteria.’
