Real Madrid rule out signing of €27m-rated Bayer Leverkusen star – report

Patrik Schick of Bayer 04 Leverkusen looks on during the 1.Bundesliga match between Bayer 04 Leverkusen and Borussia Dortmund at BayArena, Leverkusen, Germany on May 11, 2025.

Real Madrid have decided not to move forward with the signing of Bayer Leverkusen striker Patrik Schick, according to an update from Fichajes.

Schick, who was personally requested by Xabi Alonso, seemed set to become Los Blancos’ next big attacking reinforcement. The Czech forward, valued at around €40 million, was expected to add depth to the squad.

However, the impressive performances of young forward Gonzalo Garcia have completely changed the club’s plans.

Initially, Garcia got his chance in the team because key forwards like Kylian Mbappe and Endrick were unavailable. But instead of just filling in, he seized the opportunity, showcasing his skills, hard work, and tactical understanding.

His standout displays at the FIFA Club World Cup convinced both the coaching staff and the dressing room that he’s ready for a bigger role.

Garcia’s ability to keep the opposition centre-backs busy has positioned him as a serious option in Real Madrid’s attacking rotation.

While his style is not a perfect match to that of Joselu, he can take on similar responsibilities during games, especially when the team needs a physical presence up front.

Rather than look for a loan move to gain experience, it now appears Garcia will stay with the first team next season. This decision is not only great news for the player but also for Real Madrid’s finances.

By trusting a talented youth academy product like Garcia, the club avoids spending tens of millions on a new striker, freeing up funds for other needs.

The club’s directors are thrilled with the 21-year-old’s rise, seeing it as proof of the value of investing in young players.

For him, this is a golden chance to establish himself at one of the world’s biggest clubs, and he is determined to make the most of it.
