Liverpool’s deadline day signing of Alexander Isak marks the arrival of one of Europe’s most prolific strikers.
The 25-year-old Sweden international joins from Newcastle United for a British record fee, concluding a transfer saga that stretched through the summer before a breakthrough was finally reached in the early hours of Monday morning.
Isak has not featured competitively since Newcastle’s final match of the 2024-25 season and will first link up with Sweden on international duty before reporting back to Arne Slot’s squad.
Supporters eager to see him in action will have to wait to see whether he is match sharp for Liverpool’s next fixture against Burnley on September 14.
Speaking in his first interview with LFCTV, Isak addressed questions over his fitness and readiness to make his debut for Liverpool. “Yeah, of course, that’s the ambition,” he said.
“However, I’ve had a tricky summer where I haven’t played any games and I’ve had restricted training, so that’s one to judge and analyse where I’m at and how much I’m ready to give. But I certainly want to play as soon as possible.”
Isak’s comments suggest a cautious approach may be needed. His time away from competitive football has been lengthy, but his international involvement could accelerate his return to full sharpness.
