Man City sign Gianluigi Donnarumma
Manchester City announced Tuesday that they’ve signed Gianluigi Donnarumma from PSG for €35 million (£30.3 million). The Italian goalkeeper completed the move a day earlier and will step in as Ederson’s replacement.
According to The Athletic, Ederson went to Fenerbahçe in a deal worth about €14 million (£12.1 million). Meanwhile, DAZN and SportMediaset reporter Orazio Accomando also confirmed that City’s agreement with PSG is a fee of €35 million with an additional €4 million in add-ons.
Although it’s the international break, Donnarumma finally spoke publicly about his new chapter.
With his transfer to Manchester City all set, Donnarumma recently broke his silence about this move. Moreover, he expressed loved to manager Pep Guardiola for wanting him to come be part of their project.
“Honestly, I was looking forward to joining Manchester City because they really wanted me, because Guardiola really wanted me,” Donnarumma said (h/t Le10Sport). “I can only be proud to have arrived at a club like City. I am very happy.”
Meanwhile, there’s a goalkeeping competition for the No. 1 job with James Trafford already there too. Former Manchester City manager Stuart Pearce was on talkSPORT and stated that Trafford should see the arrival of Donnarumma as a positive since it’s an opportunity to edge out a Champions League and European Cup winner.
“You’ll probably be a little bit disappointed, but you’ve got a top goalkeeper there,” Pearce said. “If I was advising him, I would say, ‘Look, at the age you are at the moment, see this as a positive [when] Donnarumma comes in.’
“You’ve got competition, so you’ve got to up your game. Also, you’ve got two great role models that have been around the block to learn from over the next year or so. I would use it as a positive rather than a negative, if I was him.”
