The Czech Republic’s footballers have qualified for the World Cup for the first time in 20 years after overcoming Denmark in their playoff final in Prague on Tuesday night.

The Czechs twice went ahead and twice saw the visitors equalise before they eventually won the match at Sparta Prague’s stadium on penalties, just as they had against Ireland in a playoffs semi-final.

Coach Miroslav Koubek’s team will be in a group with Mexico, South Africa and South Korea at the World Cup, which starts in North America in June.
