Bologna Strike Deal to Sign Juventus Target

Bologna and Spezia have reportedly agreed on a €12m for offensive-minded full-back Emil Holm to switch to Renato Dall’Ara. According to Calciomercato, the 24-year-old will join forces with Vincenzo Italiano’s side for a reported fee of €7m.

However, several add-ons in the deal could bring the total cost to €12m. Bologna have beaten Juventus to the punch, closing the operation in a blitz to anticipate the Turin giants’ rumored interest in the Sweden international. In addition to the Bianconeri, Genoa and Lazio were also keen on Holm.

Spezia signed Holm from Danish outfit Sonderjyske for only €0.3m in the summer of 2021. It means the Serie B strugglers will report a substantial profit from his transfer to Bologna. But that’s not the only financial gain Holm ensured for Spezia. They earned €2.5m from his loan move to Atalanta last year.

La Dea refused to take up the buy-out option at €8.3m despite handing the Swede 32 appearances in 2023/24 between Serie A, Coppa Italia, and the Europa League. Immediately after Atalanta withdrew from negotiations, Bologna have swooped in and are on the cusp of getting the deal over the line.

Holm should compete with Stefan Posch for a place in the starting XI at Bologna. The Austrian defender was Thiago Motta’s first-choice right-back last term, with veteran Lorenzo De Silvestri being his backup option. But even if the 36-year-old stays at Dall’Ara, his first-team prospects look bleak, with the ex-Atalanta man expected to go toe-to-toe with Posch.
