Rasmus Hojlund scored a 96th-minute equaliser to earn Manchester United a point against 10-man Bournemouth after a controversial red card for Evanilson.

Another late show gives United a lift ahead of the first leg of their Europa League semi-final against Athletic Bilbao next week and is a blow to Bournemouth’s hopes of qualifying for Europe next season.

Tyler Adams avoided an early red card for a full-blooded challenge on Alejandro Garnacho and Bournemouth then went ahead on 23 minutes after some sloppy play from United.

Luke Shaw, making his first start of the season, played a short pass to Patrick Dorgu as United tried to play out from the back and he was robbed of possession.

Bournemouth crossed into the box from the right and Antoine Semenyo drilled a finish past Andre Onana after a knockdown from Evanilson.

Alejandro Garnacho had a few openings for United in the first half but Bournemouth were full value for their lead at the break.

Semenyo went close to second with a curling effort at the start of the second half and Dango Ouattara then hit the post from a free-kick as Bournemouth pressed for a second.

Bournemouth were reduced to 10 man after 69 minutes when Evanilson was controversially sent off for a late challenge on Noussair Mazraoui after a VAR check.
