Newcastle United have rebuffed initial interest from Liverpool in their teenage starlet Yankuba Minteh.

Speaking on the new edition of Football Insider’s Inside Track podcast, senior correspondent Pete O’Rourke revealed Liverpool had Minteh on their radar due to his connections with Arne Slot.

Slot managed Minteh at Feyenoord last season in what was a successful year of development for the Gambian winger, who scored 10 goals in 27 Eredivisie games in Rotterdam whilst on loan from the Magpies.

Borussia Dortmund are also tracking the player’s progress, with Newcastle set to receive a considerable profit should they opt to sell.

Newcastle originally signed the player from Danish club OB last summer for a fee of around £6.8m (€8m), immediately sending him on loan to the Netherlands under Slot’s stewardship.

Minteh has four years remaining on his current deal at Newcastle.
