Bayern Munich has gone from strength to strength in turning over the No. 10 position from Thomas Müller — a player so indescribably unique he coined his own interpretation of the position, and of space itself — to Jamal Musiala, one of the game’s rising stars.
And it’s perhaps not coincidental. Musiala, 22, broke into the ranks while Müller was still at his best, and while he is supremely talented himself, he also had the chance to learn some tricks of the trade from one of the craftiest to ever do it.
Greatest of all time? Yes indeed, Musiala tipped his hat to der Raumdeuter.
“I will give that to Thomas Müller,” Musiala reflected in his interview with The Athletic after being named the cover star of the video game EA FC 26. “I’ve learned so much from him — so many little bits of advice — and I’ve had so much fun playing with him. There are so many players I could say, but Thomas is at the top.”
The German record champions will have a tough time dealing without both players in the upcoming campaign — as on top of Müller’s exit, Musiala suffered a serious leg injury at the Club World Cup. But in the long view, Bayern’s attacking prowess will remain lethal for years to come.
