Frenkie de Jong helped Barcelona defeat Almeria 2-0 in the final match for Gerard Pique on Saturday evening.
Earlier in the week it was announced that Gerard Pique would play his final game for Barcelona on Saturday. Frenkie de Jong was in the starting eleven while Memphis Depay is still out.
Robert Lewandowski missed an early penalty for Barcelona, who could not open the scoring in the first half. Three minutes after the break, Ousmane Dembele did make it 1-0.
In the 62nd minute, De Jong added the second with a close-range finish after Ansu Fati’s strike was kept out.
Pique was then given an emotional send off two minutes from time as Barcelona saw out the rest of the match. They climb above Real Madrid and go top.
