Man Utd: Amorim fumes after Carabao cup loss

Ruben Amorim Ruben Amorim hit out at his Manchester United players and said the "best team won" after the Premier League side suffered a Carabao Cup humiliation by losing to EFL League Two club Grimsby Town. Despite fighting back from 2-0 down to draw 2-2 at Blundell Park, United suffered a 12-11 penalty shootout defeat after misses by summer signings Bryan Mbeumo and Matheus Cunha. Goalkeeper André Onana only saved one Grimsby penalty. The defeat was the first time United have lost a Carabao Cup tie against a fourth-tier team and it means they suffered a round two exit for the first time since 2014. But after taking one point from two Premier League games so far this season, Amorim criticized his players and hinted at a poor attitude still being an issue within his squad."...

Amorim When a team changes manager and the dust settles following the initial hysteria, often one of the first questions to be asked is which players will benefit most from the new man's arrival. If a manager can start to get a tune out of an expensive recruit who has so far failed to prove their worth, they've instant credit in the bank from fans and those within the club's hierarchy. But there's a lot more to it than 'they played well under them before and so this time should be no different'. Take Erik ten Hag's arrival at United as an example. The Dutchman was keen to surround himself with home comforts, regularly targeting players either from, or who had spent time in, the Eredivisie. Yet, having inherited a player he had coached previously at Ajax in Donny van de Beek, he failed t...

Ruben Amorim Manchester United remain without a Premier League win this season after being held 1-1 at Fulham on Sunday. Ruben Amorim's United were left to rue Bruno Fernandes' wayward first-half penalty as they were pegged back at Craven Cottage. Rodrigo Muniz's own-goal put United in front on the hour mark, but Emile Smith Rowe came off the bench to rescue a point for Fulham. "After the (United) goal we were just thinking about the result. We were OK until the goal and then we were not smart in that moment," said Amorim. The Portuguese coach is under pressure to show improvements after a disastrous 15th-placed finish last season, but so far his new £200 million forward line of Matheus Cunha, Bryan Mbeumo and Benjamin Sesko, who again started on the bench, is yet to fire. Despite an enc...

Thomas frank Tottenham Hotspur made it back-to-back Premier League victories under new manager Thomas Frank by stunning Manchester City once again at the Etihad Stadium. Spurs came here last November and inflicted a 4-0 humbling of City in a scintillating performance, and went home once more with all three points courtesy of a resolute defensive display. They started slowly as Omar Marmoush latched onto Pedro Porro's loose header and squeezed a shot narrowly wide of the far post before seeing a thunderous strike from range pushed away by Guglielmo Vicario. The Egyptian was lively early on and forced another excellent save from the Spurs goalkeeper after being played through by Erling Haaland. With their first real threat of the game, Spurs took the lead courtesy of a lightning ...

Joao Pedro Chelsea came from behind to thrash West Ham 5-1 and leave former Blues boss Graham Potter under pressure just two games into the Premier League season. Potter has won just five of 21 games since taking charge in January and has endured a miserable start to the new campaign after a 3-0 defeat to newly-promoted Sunderland last weekend. Lucas Paqueta's brilliant strike gave the home side early hope on Friday, blasting into the top corner from long range, but they quickly capitulated. Joao Pedro scored the first of Chelsea's three goals from corners before Pedro Neto and Enzo Fernandez added to the world champions' lead. Moises Caicedo and Trevoh Chalobah then took advantage of a nightmare night for new West Ham goalkeeper Mads Hermansen. Victory took Chelsea, who drew their openi...

Arteta: Arsenal, Eze deal not due to Havertz injury

Eberechi Eze Mikel Arteta has insisted Arsenal's pursuit of Crystal Palace midfielder Eberechi Eze is not a response to Kai Havertz's latest injury setback.Eze is expected to undergo a medical imminently ahead of his £67.5 million ($91m) move from Palace after Arsenal hijacked Tottenham's interest in the England international during a dramatic day in midweek. Havertz missed open training at Emirates Stadium on Wednesday morning, around the time Spurs finalised terms with Palace and Eze believing they had won the race for his signature. However, Arsenal accelerated their own interest in Eze and matched Tottenham's offer with the player's boyhood affinity for the club helping swing his decision in their favour. Havertz requires further examination to determine the full extent of ...

Rasmus Hojlund 1 Manchester United striker Rasmus Hojlund is open to joining Napoli in the coming days, but not on any formula. Although he isn’t officially part of the so-called ‘bomb squad’ with Jadon Sancho and fellow outcasts, the 22-year-old has become surplus to requirements at Carrington since the arrival of Benjamin Sesko. Ruben Amorim has made it abundantly clear by leaving the Dane on the bench for the duration of the friendly contest against Fiorentina, and then dropping him from the squad altogether ahead of the Premier League opener against Arsenal. In recent weeks, the former Atalanta star declared his intention to stay at Man Utd and fight for his place. However, the manager’s recent selections suggest that the striker might not be handed enough opportunities (if any) to ...

This was not one of those occasions.Maguire says there was interest in him this summer. However, United's hierarchy made it clear he wasn't leaving."Last year, the clause was in their hands," he said. "There was no option for me there. ...

Ruben Amorim Manchester United renew interest in Agoume Manchester United are in the market for a midfielder this summer, and could turn to La Liga to fill that need. The Red Devils have been closely linked with Brighton and Hove Albion man Carlos Baleba, but they could be priced out of a move. It seems Ruben Amorim is keen to have someone through the door that can glue things together in the midfield though, and Sevilla man Lucien Agoume has emerged as a surprise candidate for a move. Agoume, who arrived from Inter 18 months ago, initially on loan, started Matias Almeyda’s first game on Sunday and scored a brilliant goal in their 3-2 defeat to Athletic Club. Daniel Farke Daniel Farke hails Lukas Nmecha’s ‘ice-cold finish’ in Leeds’ win over Everton Daniel Farke revealed he almost took the ball off Lukas Nmecha before the substitute’s late penalty secured Leeds a winning return to the Premier League against Everton. Summer signing Nmecha, a free transfer from Wolfsburg, held his nerve to bury his 84th-minute spot kick – just six minutes after stepping off the bench to replace Joel Piroe – to clinch Leeds a deserved 1-0 victory at Elland Road. Farke said: “I was a bit worried. He’s on the sheet for taking penalties, but as a substitute, he needed more touches and I was thinking of stepping in there and taking the ball off him. “Thank God I calmed myself down and he prove me right with an ice-cold finish. After this, United tried, and Benjamin Sesko was brought on from the bench by Ruben Amorim, but the equaliser was not found. Bryan Mbeumo created a chance with a brilliant bicycle kick, then tried to score with a header, but David Raya stopped it. Hugo Ekitike certainly impressed during his first Premier League outing, producing a goal and an assist on his Anfield debut. After being two goals down, Bournemouth battled valiantly to get back into the game and a brace from Antoine Semenyo brought the game back to 2-2. Everton given boost in pursuit of Jack Grealish

Jack Grealish Everton have been given a boost in their pursuit of Jack Grealish as the Manchester City outcast appears not to be part of Pep Guardiola's plans this season. Daily Mail Sport previously reported that Fenerbahce were knocked back with an ambitious move for the England international. In June, we revealed how the Merseyside club were monitoring the situation with the former Aston Villa man, who would become a marquee signing as they mark their move to a new stadium. Now, an approach has been made over the possibility of a season-long loan switch for Grealish, who is thought to be on around £300,000-a-week at City. Those with knowledge of the season believe a move may not materialise until late in the window, given the belief that a number of clubs who are interested are yet t...
