Top Milan talent tipped for loan exit in key move for development

AC Milan youngster Mattia Liberali could reportedly join Parma on loan with contact said to have made over a potential deal.

The 18-year-old has emerged as one of the top young talents to come through the youth ranks at the club in recent years, and he’s made one appearance at senior level as he continues to strive to make a more meaningful breakthrough.

In order to test himself at a higher level and to help improve and develop his game with a more prominent role and regular playing time, Gianluca Di Marzio reports that Liberali could join Parma on loan for the upcoming season.

It’s added that contact has been made between the two clubs to discuss a potential switch, but the expectation is that Liberali will join the rest of the Milan squad for pre-season training in a few days to begin with, where Massimiliano Allegri and his coaches will assess him.

While it’s hoped that he can impress them and perhaps carve out a place for himself in the first-team squad for next season, the expectation is that he’s going to face stiff competition and sit lower down the pecking order, and so that could stifle his progression and development as his role and minutes will be limited.

In turn, a temporary stint, particularly at a club like Parma who give young players an opportunity, could be the ideal fit for him in the short-term, but it’s hoped that Milan don’t offer further concessions that could lead to him leaving on a permanent basis next summer if they have an obligation or option to buy included in the agreement.

That said, much will depend on what Allegri and his staff see in Liberali and whether or not they believe he can have a successful future with the Rossoneri, and so the next week or two could be pivotal in determining the path of his future.

Milan are making big changes this summer to strengthen the squad and help Allegri mould it into his own, but it would be great to see some of our youth players make the jump up and get chances to impress and offer depth in key areas too in order to have the right balance.
