FC Barcelona were looking to move on several of their players in the last summer transfer window, and one of these players who seemed particularly likely to depart was the Danish center-back Andreas Christensen.

His sale would have allowed the Catalans to make a small profit on a player that had arrived for free and whose contract was ending in a year, while also lightening the crowded center-back position.

However, the player himself was not really keen to move away from the Blaugrana club, and as Diario AS has noted, his decision to stay is now bearing fruit as he is now becoming a more important part of Flick’s plans, especially since the departure of Inigo Martinez to Saudi Arabia.

Although he is still not a fixed starter, he has already accumulated up to 105 minutes in the first three matches of the season for Barcelona.

He did not play against Mallorca, but played the final 15 minutes against Levante, before playing the full match alongside Eric Garcia against Rayo Vallecano. In this latter game, he was one of the few players who came out with his head held high.

Keeping this trend in view, it looks like he will get a good amount of minutes to play this season, and his performances can also compel Barcelona to offer him a new contract, something the Catalans are not considering at this point in time.
