Christian Eriksen of Manchester United in action with Dusan Tadic of Fenerbahce during the UEFA Europa League 2024/25 League Phase MD3 match between Fenerbahce SK and Manchester United at Ulker Stadium on October 24, 2024 in Istanbul, Turkey. Manchester United's box office reunion with Jose Mourinho has lived up to the billing, with their former manager sent off as his Fenerbahce side denied Erik ten Hag a first Europa League win of the season. The Red Devils have made a stumbling start to the new-look competition, with a shock home draw with FC Twente followed by an added-time goal saving them from defeat in Porto. Ten Hag demands Man Utd response in Europa League

Manchester United will attempt to recover from another demoralising defeat that raised fresh questions over manager Erik ten Hag's future as they head to Porto in the Europa League on Thursday. The record 20-time English champions are off to their joint-worst start in the Premier League era, collecting just seven points from six games and scoring a mere five goals. United also began their European campaign in worrying fashion, drawing 1-1 at Old Trafford last week with Ten Hag's former club Twente, a result midfielder Christian Eriksen said "feels like a loss". It extended United's poor run in Europe to one win in nine games after last season's disastrous Champions League display. Ten Hag again pleaded for more time to turn the club's fortunes around after the 3-0 loss to Spurs on Sunday, ...

Panathinaikos’ Europa League hopes in doubt after defeat to Ajax

Panathinaikos is on the verge of a Europa League exit after losing their opening game with Ajax, putting all the pressure on them to cause an upset in the reverse fixture in Amsterdam. The “Trifylli” fell 0-1 to the Dutch giants at the Olympic Stadium on Friday morning (AEST), giving them a major obstacle to overcome in next week’s second leg of their third qualifying round tie. Ajax found what proved to be the match’s only goal in the 28th minute with a lovely team movement that was polished off by winger Steven Berghuis’ strike into the bottom right. The Greens grew into the game and managed to have the ascendency for periods of the clash as they searched for an equaliser, though they proved unable to penetrate Ajax’s defence. The assignment now calls on Panathinaikos to manufacture ...
