Scorer Balogun injured as Monaco top French league

US striker Folarin Balogun has scored for the third game in a row then left the pitch injured as Monaco went clear atop the French league by winning at Rennes 2-1. Balogun netted the winner in the 22nd minute of Saturday's match but was forced off after the hour mark with an apparent shoulder injury. It was unclear whether he would be able to join the US squad ahead of matches against Panama and Mexico. Unbeaten Monaco battled throughout the second half but kept their small advantage intact to move to the top of the table. Monaco centre-back Guillermo Maripan to sign for Torino

Monaco centre-back and Chile international Guillermo Maripan (30) is set to leave the Principality club to join Serie A side Torino FC on loan, according to a report from L’Equipe. The 30-year-old centre-back has been progressively frozen out by Monaco head coach Adi Hütter. The Austrian manager has left Maripan out of the matchday squad that won 2-0 at Olympique Lyonnais last Saturday. The Chilean was an unused substitute for Monaco’s season-opening 1-0 home win against promoted Ligue 1 side Saint-Etienne. AS Monaco announces the loan of striker Myron Boadu to VfL Bochum for the 2024-2025 season.
