Christopher Nkunku has refused to
rule out the prospect of leaving RB Leipzig this summer amid ongoing links
connecting him with a move to Manchester United.
The Frenchman — who scored a hat-trick against Manchester
City in the Champions League at the Etihad Stadium last September — has enjoyed
a truly outstanding campaign for Leipzig this term, scoring 35 goals and
grabbing 20 assists in all competitions. His tally of 55 direct goal
contributions means that he has averaged more than one goal involvement every
game, making 51 appearances.
With 20 of his 35 goals scored in the Bundesliga and seven of
them in six Champions League appearances, it has been by far the most
productive and encouraging season of his career to date.
Unsurprisingly, his form in Germany this season has not gone
unnoticed, with a plethora of big-name clubs taking a liking to him, including United. Nkunku is a player that has reportedly
attracted their attention ahead of the symmer.
However, Chelsea have also been credited with interest in his
services, as have French giants Paris Saint-Germain. PSG is Nkunku’s boyhood
club and he has made to secret of his admiration for the French side.
“Paris, I’ve always said it, it’s my home, my heart
club,” said Nkunku, speaking ahead of France’s upcoming Nations League
clash with Denmark. “I don’t close any doors. Everything is possible in
football.“It’s flattering to have the biggest clubs in the world
interested in me. But it’s also flattering that Leipzig is doing everything to
keep me. We are in June, and I am focused on this gathering.”
Under contract at Leipzig until the summer of 2024, it means
that it would take a big offer for the German club to reluctantly let go of the
24-year-old, who joined them from PSG back in 2019. It has been claimed
elsewhere that Leipzig would listen to offers in the region of £60million.
United, who on Sunday confirmed that Ralf Rangnick will not
be entering his consultancy role this summer, are set to try and strengthen
their attacking options this summer with the addition of a new striker. Edinson
Cavani is set to leave the club next month, leaving Cristiano Ronaldo as their
only senior striker.
