Wales qualified for the 2022 FIFA World Cup in Qatar
after defeating Ukraine 1-0 in their European qualifying playoff final at
Cardiff City Stadium on Sunday.

The match had been originally scheduled for March
but was postponed because of Russia’s military operations in Ukraine which
started on February 24.

Welsh captain Gareth Bale lined up a free-kick from
25 yards and Ukrainian captain Andriy Yarmolenko, while attempting to clear the
ball, headed it into his own net past his goalkeeper in the 34th minute.

Wales had goalkeeper Wayne Hennessey to thank as he
made nine saves throughout the match to deny Ukraine. Ukraine had nine shots on
target, the most by a team without scoring during a game in the 2022 European
World Cup qualifying campaign.

This will be Wales’ first World Cup since 1958 and
they will go into Group B together with England, the United States and Iran.
