AC Milan have triggered the option to sign Cathal
Heffernan on a permanent basis from Cork City following a successful six-month
loan spell in Italy.

The 17-year-old Republic of Ireland underage
international went on loan to Italy in January and made his debut for AC
Milan’s Primavera 1 side in March.

Heffernan spoke about his time in Italy following
the announcement that AC Milan had triggered the option to sign the midfielder.

The Cork native admitted the move was hard at the start.
Heffernan, however, adapted to the new environment.

“Words can’t describe how I feel about it, it just
suits me to the ground. The culture, the weather, everything, I just love
it,” Heffernan said on the Rebel Army’s YouTube account.

“Since I have got over there I have just loved every
second of it and I don’t take any day for granted. I just keep working hard and
getting better every day.

“It was difficult at the start, the first two
weeks were hard, but once I adapted it became second nature.”

Heffernan said
he is unaware of when pre-season officially begins, although, he just received
his “pre-pre-season programme” so that’s his initial focus.

The former Ringmahon Rangers player will spend
another month at home before travelling back to Milan in the middle of July.

“To be honest I don’t actually know the exact date
yet but we just got sent a pre-pre-season programme there so I will probably do
that for the next few weeks,” Heffernan added.

“I’ll probably have another month at home and then
in the middle of July I will go back.”
