PSG announce the signing of former Wolves flop Vitinha on a five-year deal

Paris
Saint-Germain
have signed midfielder Vitinha from Porto on a
five-year contract, the Ligue 1 champions
said on Thursday.

The 22-year-old, the first signing of the summer for
PSG, has joined the French side for a fee of about €40million euros (£34.4m),
local media reports said.

Vitinha made a total of 59 appearances and scored
four goals for the Portuguese club since his professional debut in 2020.

He helped Porto win the league title last season as
well as two domestic cups and has also been capped three times by Portugal.

‘A great challenge awaits me and I cannot wait to
start,’ Vitinha said in an interview on PSG’s official website.

‘I will try to play the football I know and help the
team achieve their goals as much as possible.’

The Porto youth product has spent most of his career
in his home country but was sent on a one-year loan to Wolves for the 2020-21
season.

Vitinha enjoyed a starring role with his former club
last season, having started 27 league games.

He made his international debut in March, and was
one of three Porto players picked in the division’s best XI for the 2021-22
campaign.

Wolves turned down the option to sign him
permanently last summer, allowing PSG to swoop him and wrap up the deal in
recent hours.

At the Parc des Princes, Vitinha will play alongside
his Portuguese compatriots Nuno Mendes and Danilo Pereira, with the former
signing permanently today.
