Arsenal have medical booked as West Ham in talks with winger

Tommy Setford is set to undergo a medical at Arsenal ahead of sealing his move from Ajax. The 18-year-old goalkeeper is expected to sign a four-year contract at the Emirates, football flame understands.

The Gunners are ready to fork out around £840,000 after beating competition to secure his signature. A talented shot-stopper, Setford made his debut for England Under 19s earlier this year before being named on the bench for two U20s matches last month.

Now, according to Fabrizio Romano, the Gunners have ‘booked medical tests’ for Setford as he closes in on moving from Ajax. Mikel Arteta, along with specialist coach Inaki Cana, are in the process of overhauling their goalkeeping department, with Setford set to become the second youngster to bolster that area of the pitch. Lucas Nygaard, 18, moved to Arsenal last month from FC Nordsjaelland.

Elsewhere, West Ham are in talks with Arsenal over a move to sign Reiss Nelson. The 24-year-old who signed a new four-year contract – with an option of a fifth – last July, made just one Premier League start last season. He was not in the squad for the final five matches, and totalled just 15 top-flight appearances.

Last month, it was revealed that Nelson has told the Gunners he would like to assess his options for a potential summer transfer after struggling for regular game time. And the winger could now be getting his wish, with West Ham keen on taking him across London to the Hammers this summer.

Despite his lack of minutes, the Gunners rejected approaches in January and would want around £20million including all-ons if they decide to sell him. Nelson has three years left on his current deal, meaning Arsenal do have no pressure to cash in unless they want to go and sign another winger.

This is because it was reported on Tuesday that the Gunners could have to sell in order to strengthen out wide this summer, with Nico Williams their preferred candidate. Williams has emerged as a priority target for Arsenal if they go and sign a winger, having impressed for Spain at Euro 2024.
