Arsenal news: Kai Havertz handed new job as late transfer announcement hit with delay

Arsenal are in a good place heading into the first international break of the campaign.The Gunners are undefeated in the Premier League having won two and drawn one of their opening three games.

Their latest outing saw them draw 1-1 with Brighton, while they were also reduced to ten men following Declan Rice’s controversial sending off.

For the time being, Arsenal’s on-pitch commitments take a back seat for this month’s upcoming international fixtures. A whole host of stars will be in action over the coming weeks having jetted off to all corners of the globe.

Havertz handed new job

Arsenal’s in-form forward Kai Havertz has been named as Germany’s vice captain after completing a dramatic turnaround. Germany boss Julian Nagelsmann announced his decision earlier this week.

Bayern Munich midfielder Joshua Kimmich has been named as his nation’s captain, with Havertz’s ex-Chelsea teammate Antonio Rudiger also claiming a role as a vice-captain. Explaining his decision, Nagelsmann said:

“The captain places the team’s opinion with the coaching team. He [Kimmich] was the logical successor. He leads the way with his mentality.”

“We have a very good mix with these three players [Kimmich, Havertz and Rudiger],” Nagelsmann added. Havertz has scored 18 goals in 51 caps for his nation so far.

Nketiah exit delayed

From one current Arsenal forward to a former one now, with Eddie Nketiah completing a move away from the Emirates on deadline day.

Despite the deal being announced on the last day of the window, it appears that a move was completed before that.Days after the £30m was made official, Crystal Palace shared a behind-the-scenes video of Nketiah on his first day with the Eagles.

He met his new teammates and was put through his paces at the club’s training ground.During the video, the camera pans round to a TV screen, onto which the day’s date was shown. It indicated Nketiah’s first day as a Palace player was Wednesday August 28th – two days before the move was made official.

Ferdinand issues Sterling demand

Rio Ferdinand has told Mikel Arteta to give Raheem Sterling his Arsenal debut after the international break – in place of Bukayo Saka. Speaking on his YouTube account, he said: “I just hope this [the loan deal] reignites him [Sterling] now and he hits the ground running.

“I think their wide players do need help – Saka’s had so many games, it’ll be nice I think if Arteta can go, ‘You know what let me just let Saka sit out’. Saka won’t like it, but he’ll say, ‘Just sit out for this one’, and imagine what the output of Saka is going to be if he gets a rest here and there?

“He’s been doing this on full throttle, no rest, every game going out there giving mad performances, right? Now, he’s got a bit of back-up, you know what it’s like when a man’s got back-up, they get bigger, they feel stronger, they feel better, they deliver more.”
