Arsenal continue their Premier League title charge when they host London rivals West Ham United on Saturday.
Mikel Arteta’s side defeated Leicester City 2-0 on Saturday to temporarily move within four points of league leaders Liverpool, before the Reds re-established their seven-point advantage with victory against Wolves on Sunday afternoon.
Having finished second in each of the past two league campaigns, the Gunners will hope to avoid once again finishing as runners-up this time around.
Arteta faces a selection headache for the remainder of the current campaign, though, with both Gabriel Jesus and Kai Havertz having been ruled out until the summer.
Midfielder Mikel Merino scored twice against Leicester after being introduced as a makeshift striker midway through the second-half, but it appears that Arteta is eyeing a move for a new forward this summer.
According to CaughtOffside, both Arsenal and Chelsea are pondering a move for Eintracht Frankfurt striker Hugo Ekitike.
The report claims that the two London sides are both eyeing a move for the Frenchman as a possible alternative to Newcastle United star Alexander Isak.
Isak has scored 17 goals in 23 Premier League matches this term and has attracted interest from several clubs, but the report claims that he is likely to stay put at St. James’ Park if the Magpies qualify for next season’s Champions League.
Etikite, 22, is seen by both the Gunners and the Blues as a possible cheaper alternative to both Isak and RB Leipzig star Benjamin Sesko.
The young striker joined Frankfurt on loan from Paris Saint-Germain in February last year, before making his move permanent last summer.
He has now played 48 times for the German side across all competitions, scoring 21 goals and registering eight assists.
It is claimed that the Bundesliga outfit are hopeful of keeping hold of the forward for at least one more season, although they are aware that he is likely to follow in the footsteps of the likes of Omar Marmoush and become the club’s next big-money departure at some point.
