Koulibaly sends Senegal into World Cup last 16

(L-R) Alan Franco of Ecuador, Kalidou Koulibaly of Senegal during the World Cup match between Ecuador v Senegal at the Khalifa International Stadium on November 29, 2022 in Doha Qatar. Kalidou Koulibaly’s nerveless volley sent Senegal into the World Cup’s knockout stages for only the second time in their history as they eliminated Ecuador at a rowdy Khalifa International Stadium. All three goals came from players based in England as Ecuador’s Brighton midfielder Moises Caicedo cancelled out a penalty by Watford’s Ismaila Sarr before Chelsea defender Koulibaly’s side-footer won it. Ecuador needed just a point to progress but paid the price for a passive display as Senegal were spurred on by an almost non-stop cacophony of drumming from their supporters in Al Rayyan. Chelsea injury news ahead of Brighton with updates on Kovacic and Koulibaly

Mateo Kovacic of Chelsea FC controls the ball during the UEFA Champions League group E match between FC Salzburg and Chelsea FC at Football Arena Salzburg on October 25, 2022 in Salzburg, Austria. Chelsea made it nine unbeaten under Graham Potter in midweek as his side picked up a huge victory over RB Salzburg to confirm a place in the Champions League knockout stages. Next up is a whole host of familiar faces for Potter as he makes the return to the south coast against Brighton in the Premier League. The west Londoners already hav...

Chelsea’s Kalidou Koulibaly out of Champions League match vs Red Bull Salzburg

Graham Potter embraces Kalidou Koulibaly of Chelsea after their sides draw during the Premier League match between Brentford FC and Chelsea FC at Brentford Community Stadium on October 19, 2022 in Brentford, England.  Graham Potter confirmed that Kalidou Koulibaly will miss Chelsea’s clash with Red Bull Salzburg in the Champions League on Tuesday due to injury, but added that he hopes to have the Senegal international back in training later this week. Koulibaly was left out of Chelsea’s match day squad for Saturday’s 1-1 draw with Manchester United at Stamford Bridge after feeling discomfort in his knee against Brentford three days earlier, and has remained at Cobham to work on his recovery while Potter brought a 21-man squad to Salzburg. “It’s not too serious,” Potter said when asked...
